THIS TUTORIAL GOES WITH THE "FREE TO TRY" PAPER AND PAPER TEAR OVERLAY.    Make sure you go download the sample to follow along with the tutorial.

I am using a free program called GIMP (or The GIMP)  (version 2.2.11).  I received an email from someone who uses this program and I then downloaded it free from the Internet to try it out and write a tutorial to help her out and anyone else that may use the program.

1) Open the paper file "File / Open."
Then choose "File / Open as Layer" to bring the tear into your layout.

Next select "Layer / Layer to Image Size"....this will extend the extents of the paper tear overlay layer to the background paper.  You want to do this so the "magic wand" tool will work properly.  After you do this you'll see the yellow highlighted-black dashed line will move out to the edge of the paper (see images below).

2) Next, click the icon for "Select continuous regions" - looks like a wand.  Make sure "Antialiasing" and "Select transparent areas" and "Threshold=0.0" are set as shown below.

Now click on the non-shadow side (anywhere NOT on the tear) of the tear - see the "X" below:

A dashed line (NOT highlighted yellow) will outline the paper you want to keep - see image here:
