THIS TUTORIAL GOES WITH THE "FREE TO TRY" PAPER AND PAPER TEAR OVERLAY.  Make sure you go download the sample to follow along with the tutorial.

A note from a PI 8.5 user (I thought this might help some of you):

Jacqueline:  "I use PhotoImpact 8.5, and I just found a simpler way to use your tears, with the masking and 'store/load' selection tools. I've only tried it out with the sample, since I don't have any of your items from the store, but I still think my method will work with all of your tears..."

I am using Ulead Photo Impact 10 (demo version since I don't own it but had a customer who wanted to know how to use the tear overlays with their program).  This is the first time I have used the program, so bear with me.  There may be an easier way to do this, but I couldn't get the magic wand to work like it does in PSP.  If I find a better way in the future (my trial is only 30 days though) I will create another tutorial.  It just shows you the basic idea behind using the tear overlays is that you want to ERASE the paper behind the tear (but please understand some of the tears do have a transparent areas (like thinning of a torn edge) and you will have to modify your technique for other tears you might use.  In this tear, there are NO transparent areas.

1) Start a new working file, 300 dpi, 900dpix900dpi (3"x3").

Open both files from the FREE TO TRY download.  Insert both the paper and the paper tear overlay into your new working document using the standard selection tool.

You click and hold the left mouse button on the paper and drag it to the new window and do the same for the paper tear.  The paper tear should be on a layer above the paper layer.

Now to get the paper exactly where you want it, right-click on the thumbnail in the layer manager and choose "Properties"

On the "Position&Size" tab, set the left and top coordinates to 0.
