THIS TUTORIAL GOES WITH THE "FREE TO TRY" PAPER AND PAPER TEAR OVERLAY.    Make sure you go download the sample to follow along with the tutorial.

I am using Adobe Photoshop Photoshop CS Version 8.0 here.

1) Open both files from the downloaded zip file (one is a 3" background paper and one is a 3" tear).  Insert paper tear overlay into your background document by dragging from the tear window to the background window.  Make sure it is on a layer above the paper layer.

Make sure you are on the tear overlay layer (shown as "Layer 1" in the above screen shot) and move the tear overlay where you want it.  I noticed when I moved it there was a slight snap to the top of the paper so it is extending the full length of the paper, top to bottom.

2) Use the SELECTION tool = MAGIC WAND and click off the tear, on the NON-shadowed side of the tear.  (example magic wand settings: Tolerance=0,  Anti-Alias, Continuous)

A mask should appear outlining the paper you want to keep. **This will really only work right if the torn edge is exactly the size of the paper (i.e. 3" tear means 3" from one side of the paper to the other side).**
