THIS TUTORIAL IS TO SHOW HOW TO RECOLOR MY PAPER TEAR OVERLAYS

I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9; I hope your software has similar tools to work with.  Thanks for your interest.

1) Insert paper tear overlay (this one is 13F from the store) into your layout (make sure it is on a layer above the paper layer).  In this example I am using a filled color of R:38  G:70  B:206 for the background.  You will have your textured paper of choice (cardstock type or patterned paper).

2) Now, Make sure you are on the tear overlay layer.

Use the MANUAL COLOR CORRECTION tool - Adjust/Color Balance/Manual Color Correction.

3) Use your mouse and left-click the mouse as shown below (where the "+" is) - on the WHITE part of the paper tear overlay.  This is your "SOURCE."

4) Use your mouse and right-click the mouse as shown below (where the "x" is) - on your paper - the color you want the tear to be.  This is your "TARGET."

5)  When you are done it will look like this.  Of course, I haven't actually torn (erased/deleted) the paper yet, just showing you color correction here.

6)  Now, I find when I tear cardstock (for example) that the color is actually a bit lighter.  UNDO the last step so you can try a lighter color.  EDIT/UNDO (Ctrl+Z)

7) Use the MANUAL COLOR CORRECTION tool - Adjust/Color Balance/Manual Color Correction - and your color selection should still be there (if not, redo what we did above), but before clicking OK, increase the "LIGHTNESS" until you are happy (I go up about 10).  We had 122 so I typed in 132.

8)  This time when you are done it will look like this.  Now I will tear (erase) the part of the paper that isn't supposed to be there and put white in the background so you can see the end result.

9)  Here are three layouts where I have recolored my paper tear overlays with the method above.  I think I have even gone lighter than the "10" increment I talk about above with some of these tears below (especially in the left layout).  Just try it out :)            CLICK LO TO SEE LARGER
